The British Music Experience is delighted to welcome Nick De Ville, the man behind many iconic covers including Roxy Music's eye catching artwork from the 70's. Nick's body of work shall be the focus for the second event in their series 'The Art Of...' that focuses on the graphics that represent the music.
"The Art Of Roxy Music & Nick De Ville"
Early on in his career Nick's Roxy Music album covers set the trend and standard for many bands of that era and continue to do so. The visuals highlight the importance of album artwork as a tool for musicians to shock, engage and delight their fans.
Nick spent much of the 1970's designing album sleeves for bands such as King Crimson and The Adverts, but since then his involvement in art has been as producer and critic. He has taught at Goldsmiths College for many years and is currently the Millard Chair for Fine Art Research; his primary interests lie in contemporary and modern art and their place in contemporary culture. Nick has written one of the most comprehensive books on album sleeve design, Album: Style and Image in Design for Music.
As part of this free event, Nick will be discussing his career and techniques, as well as answering audience questions.
Paul Lilley, curator of the British Music Experience, said "Nick De Ville's impact on album design is undeniable and we are delighted that we will have the opportunity to share his talent and knowledge with our visitors. After the success of our previous "The Art of..." event, I'm certain that fans of music and art alike will not want to miss out on this evening."
