Yardbirds
The Marquee Club first opened on Oxford Street in April 1958. It became one of the most important places in London for jazz and R&B, where artists like Alexis Korner and Cyril Davies kick-started the R&B boom. During the 1960s, acts such as The Rolling Stones, Yardbirds and The Animals forged a new blues-based rock and pop sound at the Marquee. Two of the great R&B records, Five Live Yardbirds and R&B At The Marquee, were recorded there in the early 1960s.
