"You can't plan for a career like mine...Yes, I chose to be a professional photographer but my tour of duty with Rolling Stone was a fortunate accident, a gift from the photo gods." Baron Wolman
The British Music Experience will be launching the Gibson Through The Lens exhibition with a special, one night only masterclass with Baron Wolman
Baron Wolman was Rolling Stone magazine's chief photographer during its first three years (1967-70).
Not only did Baron witness what is without a doubt the most important period of change in popular music and popular culture, but his photographs helped shape it. Rolling Stone magazine encapsulated and distilled the most noteworthy events and changes as they were taking place. Each issue would speak to this evolving youth culture in a language that was all its own.
His images covers some of the most significant artists and events from this influential rock 'n' roll period in time, visualizing the music through images of Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Frank Zappa, Joni Mitchell, The Rolling Stones, The Doors, The Who, The Grateful Dead, Bob Dylan, George Harrison, Santana, many more music legends and some of the groupies.
For years Baron Wolman has been asked to talk about the photos, how they came to be, and what happened on assignment at the various shoots. On the 10th November the answers those questions will be answered.
Baron has now, for the first time ever, compiled the iconic photographs taken during rock's most fertile era in coffee-table book The Rolling Stone Years, signed copies will be available to buy on the night of the event.
