January 2010 New British Album and Artist tips for 2010...
New British Albums & Artists to keep an ear out for...
We couldn't decide to write about 10 new British albums or 10 new British artists so we’ve split the vote and here are 5 of each:
New British Albums:
Four Tet – There Is Love In You Critically acclaimed Kieran Hebden has been quietly creating beautiful folktronica for the last 10 years and this new record is a career and personal high.
Gorillaz - Plastic Beach
With a mouth watering list of steller guests include likes of Lou Reed, Mark E Smith, Snoop Dogg, Bobby Womack and The Clash duo Mick Jones and Paul Simonon; the countdown has begun. Laura Marling – I Speak Because I Can
Following her Mercury nominated debut, this promises a maturer sound with the help of 2009 favourites Mumford & Sons helping the communication.
Paul Weller – Wake Up The Nation
‘The Modfather’ working with master of noise Kevin Shields from My Bloody Valentine working with Kevin Shield of MBV, what is not exciting about that?!
Sade – Soldier of Love
Sade Adu. Remember her? After 10 years Pop’s smooth operator returns with intriguingly dark and textured tones.
New British Artists:
Paper Plains – Warm, beguiling and lovingly crafted acoustic songs from new talent Helen Page.
Ellie Goulding – Is she justified all this hype? Only time will tell but she knows how to write a catchy tune.
Little Comets – New 4-piece from Newcastle Upon Tyne and songs as sticky as Sticky the Sticky Insect sticky on a sticky bun.
Chapel Club – Could be your favourite new place of worship.
Delphic – Tipped as the new New Order! No pressure then.

January 2010 Chris Difford Songwriting Masterclass
Cool For Cats...and aspiring Songwriters
"When it comes to vernacular British pop few do it better" Q
"I never thought that it would happen With me and the girl from Clapham" Squeeze
The British Music Experience is delighted to present an exclusive Songwriting Masterclass and Workshop with double Ivor Novello Award winner Chris Difford on Saturday 30th January.
For the uninitiated, Difford is co-founder and front-man of the legendary and indefatigable Squeeze and firmly established as one of the UK's most respected and most loved singer–songwriters.
Squeeze’s relentless 2008 touring schedule climaxed in sharing the main stage at V with Girls Aloud, The Feeling and The Verve, and a sold out 5 week US tour culminating in a sold out Radio City Music Hall. 2009 saw a solo tour for Chris treading the boards alone – bare and naked, as it were, plying not only his trade of the master of song construction and writing, but sharing with his audience what has become his trade mark, dead-pan, comedic telling of tales both new and old… while illustrating the process with a projector for what can only be described as a show and tell audio visual extravaganza.
This is a unique, collaborative event for aspiring songwriters as well as fans of Chris who will be hosting a Songwriting Workshop and providing a Q&A discussing his songwriting technique, his 30 year musical journey writing top 20 hits and performing new material with some of his most loved songs.
This very special event is by invitation only, however we have 5 pairs of tickets to win.
Simply enter your detailsHERE for the chance to win and we will contact you by the 22nd January to confirm your tickets.

This cape and guitar were used by Dave Hill, guitarist with glam rock band Slade. With hits like ‘Cum On Feel The Noize’ and ‘Merry Xmas Everybody’, Slade were one of the most commercially successful bands of the early 1970s. Although this guitar was not particularly good to use, it epitomised Hill’s theatrical approach and, together with his huge platforms, fringes and outfits, made him one of the most recognisable artists in popular music.
