The BME Experience

The British Music Experience (BME) is the national museum of British popular music and a brand new permanent tourist attraction for the city of Liverpool.

The BME tells the story of British music from 1945 right through to the present day through over 600 amazing artefacts and lots of added digital information and interactive displays. It is a state of the art experience with many highlights and surprises for the visitor. If you choose to include the galleries as part of your event your guests will wander through the eras in chronological order starting with skiffle and trad-jazz and finishing with the BRIT Awards and X Factor. Along the way, they will see beautiful stage outfits and iconic instruments that are instantly recognisable. There is additional content in each era which pulls out interviews and performances from that time, along with a digital timeline that pinpoints key moments in music history.

As your guests move through the musical timeline our friendly and knowledgeable crew can tell them the stories behind the artefacts and answer any questions about the different musical eras.

By the end of the journey through the ages your guests will be inspired to ‘Dance the Decades’ – an interactive booth where visitors learn the dances from the last 70 years –and try their hand as a band member in the Gibson Interactive Studio featuring a number of guitars, drum-kits and keyboards, and screens that teach our guests how to play, from beginners level right up to expert.

Studies and Testimonials

Liverpool and Sefton Chamber of Commerce Secret Breakfast

The BME were delighted to welcome the Liverpool and Sefton Chamber of Commerce as the first of our clients to hold an event at The BME.

The BME’s main space, situated at the heart of the exhibition, was the venue of choice for the Chamber's bi-monthly ‘Secret Breakfast’ event.

Over 80 members enjoyed a breakfast with a difference when they attended the networking event on the 14th March. After the networking session complete with freshly made bacon and sausage ciabattas and fruit platters, guests had an opportunity to have a glimpse of the new exhibition which spans the history of British Music from 1946 to present day.

Explaining why the BME was the venue of choice for this event Anelise Siddle, Events and Business Support Manager with the Chamber, said “ When planning our ‘Secret Breakfast’ events we seek out unique and unusual Liverpool venues to showcase. When we found out that the BME were opening in March we felt it would be the perfect backdrop. Our event was fantastic, the team were so helpful and it was a pleasure working with them. We are delighted that there’s such a great addition to the events offering in the City. “

Sgt Pepper 50th anniversary, press and media launch

50 years after the release of the Sgt Pepper album, Liverpool City Council hosted a press and media launch at the BME to present their plans for the forthcoming anniversary Sgt Pepper celebration programme

The British Music Experience, Liverpool’s newest addition to its already strong musical cultural offering , was chosen as the venue, not just because of the links to musical heritage, but also due to its prestigious location within the Cunard Building and the flexible and technical capability of the space.

The main space was set-up in a theatre style format for an audience of over 120, made up of music industry professionals and international journalists.

Jen Falding, Development & Corporate Project Manager for Culture Liverpool, who organised the event said “We had a very tight turnaround in terms of the technical set-up but the team at the BME were incredible and worked with us to ensure everything ran smoothly and without a hitch.  The venue looked amazing and was the perfect setting for the launch of this unique festival which pays homage to the 50th anniversary of what is widely regarded as the best rock and roll album of all time. There was no better place than the BME to embark on the never-seen-before celebration.”
