From Calypso music introduced through immigrant routes such as the Empire Windrush to the ‘Beat’ generation from the coast of California, London has been influenced by different cultures around the world. Students will find out about the different musical styles that have travelled to Britain from diverse countries such as Africa, India and Germany listening to examples of how they have influenced UK popular music.
Music is more than just a soundtrack to our lives, it has an enormous impact on the way we live them too. From the clothes we wear to the stories in the news, discover how popular music has shaped our society. This fun and engaging workshop takes you back in time to the end of the Second World War. Using stories, music and objects from the museum's collection your class must find their way back to the present day - meeting some interesting characters along the way!
