Happy Mondays
Manchester band the Happy Mondays rose to fame during the ‘Madchester’ scene in the late 80s and early 90s. With massive hits ‘Step On’ and ‘Kinky Afro’, they embodied the psychedelic, rave culture and indie dance emerging in Manchester at the time. This jacket, belonging to lead singer Shaun Ryder, shows the ‘freaky dancer’ on the lining - a nickname given to their maracas-shaking band member Bez. Ryder and Bez later formed Black Grape and inspired the 2002 movie 24 Hour Party People, named after their debut album.
