Gary Astridge - Ringo Starr Drum Historian & Curator

Event Ended

A must-see event for any Beatles fan. Join us for a special event with Gary Astridge, the man who knows more about Ringo’s drums than anyone else, apart from maybe Ringo himself!

Gary will be giving a fascinating talk about Ringo, his drums and what made his drumming so special. Gary became fascinated by Ringo’s different kits and in particular his snare drum. When Ringo took possession of his first Ludwig kit in May of ‘63, he bonded with his Jazz Festival snare drum. He used it throughout his career with the Beatles in the recording studio and on tour.

This rarest of instruments has now been faithfully replicated in 15 collector quality instruments handcrafted by Gary to produce 15 one-of-a-kind drum shells by utilising specifications from the original. Each Starr Festival features authentic 60s vintage hardware and historically correct accessories honouring the era. The project has been authorised by Ringo himself and has signed each drum with money from the sale of the drums going towards his charity The Lotus Foundation.

As a real bonus we will also be featuring a live performance by New York group The BBC Band which features Gary as one of its members. The band are renowned for their powerful and entertaining live shows capturing the original sound of the Beatles and the British invasion of the sixties.

Please note this event will take place in our Discovery Zone and does not include access to the British Music Experience.

Spaces are limited and we expect interest to be high as this event takes place during international Beatles Week so please book in advance to avoid disappointment.
