Reminiscence Sessions at the British Music Experience

Explore the British Music Experience’s collections and archives, share memories and meet new people in this informal discussion group.

Share your memories at our free Reminiscence Sessions. We’ll provide photographs and items to inspire your recollections of a particular aspect of life related to Liverpool and music. Come along and meet new friends, share memories and enjoy a chat over tea or coffee.

Reminiscence Sessions are suitable for visitors aged 55+.

UPCOMING DATES AND THEMES

Reminiscence sessions take place on the second Wednesday of each month.

All sessions start at 11.00am and last for an hour.

  • Wednesday 9th Jan: Dance Hall Days: Remembering Liverpool’s famous dance halls. Looking at dance halls such as the Grafton, the Locarno, the Rialto and others. We will be looking at the history through photographs, personal memories and music.  Please feel free to bring in any mementos for our group discussion. Sessions start at 11.00am and last for an hour.

    Wednesday 13th Feb: Making Waves: Mersey music in the 1950’s: Looking at the influence of Rock and Roll in Liverpool in the 1950’s. This session we will look at the fashion, photographs, music and the stories of Lita Roza, Billy Fury and Rory Storm. We will also be looking at the influence of Larry Parnes and Buddy Holly as well as new cultural influences from film and TV.

    Wednesday 13th March: Bring back The Beatles. Exploring the rise of The Beatles locally and internationally. We’ll be looking at the fan culture and asking you to share your memories of them.

    Wednesday 10th April: Music in the making. Who and what were your favourite bands? In this open session we want you to share your experiences of your favourite band or artist.

    Wednesday 8th May: Culture Clubs and Packed Pubs. Exploring the stories and development of Liverpool’s music and culture by sharing memories from the famous Liverpool clubs and pubs that helped to define the decades.

    Wednesday 12th June: Rollin on a River. Northern Soul and Motown on the Mersey. Through exploring the history of the “Mardi” club on Mount Pleasant this session looks at the popularity of Motown and Soul with Liverpool people.
