Us and Us Only - In Conversation with Martin Blunt
The Charlatans exhibition at the BME has been such success since opening September 2018, that we wanted to mark its final week with something special. The Charlatans have never been that straight forward, but despite having to endure many serious setbacks, they have prospered and are still making engaging music for new and old fans alike.
During the evening, there will be a screening of You Are Here, a film about the band’s Hammond and keyboard player Tony Rogers. This fascinating short film, shot and directed by Nick Jones, talks about Tony’s working farm in Ireland and the music on tour, and has won critical acclaim this year at independent film festivals across the U.S.
We’ll also be showing a short film of never-seen-before footage compiled by Kim Peters, a long-time filmer and friend of the band since 1990 who has produced several promotional videos for the band, as well as early single and album designs.
Martin will be in conversation with Carl Hunter, bass player from The Farm and long-time acquaintance. Carl has gone on to be a documentary maker and lecturer in film and in 2018 he produced his first film, Sometimes, Always, Never which received rapturous acclaim at the British Film Festival.
Afterwards, there will be a DJ set by Martin, playing music that influenced the band’s sound.
All ticket proceeds from tonight’s event will be donated to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital.
