- TRAMPS! The Death Of Punk, The New Romantics, The Art Of Survival Film Screening plus Director Q&A | BME
TRAMPS! The Death Of Punk, The New Romantics, The Art Of Survival Film Screening plus Director Q&A 1 November - 7pm All tickets £8. BOOK TICKETS Rising from the nihilistic ashes of the punk movement in the late 1970s, a fresh crowd of flamboyant fashionistas and irreverent misfits who would later be christened the New Romantics began to materialise on the streets of London. TRAMPS! is a feature-length documentary that looks at how an onslaught of art students arriving in the city in the 1980s resulted in a unique cross-fertilisation of queer culture, visual and performance art, fashion, music and film, and a flourishing of radical, subversive creative output. Repositioning the New Romantics as an art movement rather than an exclusively pop-cultural one, and foregrounding the LGBTQIA+ stories at its core, TRAMPS! traces a genealogy of like-minded artists that predated the era, such as the influential Derek Jarman, and illustrates how they laid the foundations for the creative subcultures that followed. The film’s focus on the defiance and daring, glitter and grit of groundbreaking figures such as Philip Sallon, Judy Blame, Princess Julia, Scarlett Cannon, John Maybury, Mark Moore and Duggie Fields brings a bold and brilliant creative moment to light, and rewrites what we think we know about the era. Four decades on, the creative resilience described by the generation-spanning subjects of TRAMPS! are a direct message of hope to artists at a time when it’s needed most. The film is followed by a Q&A with Director, Kevin Hegge and Joan Burnett - Board member of Homotopia Arts and a previous trustee of Pride in Liverpool. There are no ads or trailers, the film starts at 7pm. Please note, our galleries are closed during film screenings. Previous Next
- Rolling Stone: Life and Death of Brian Jones | BME
Rolling Stone: Life and Death of Brian Jones 15 July - 7pm Tickets: £7.50 / £6 concession or Independent Liverpool member (ID required) BOOK TICKETS This event has been rescheduled from its original date. Directed by Danny Garcia (The Rise and Fall of The Clash/Looking for Johnny/Sad Vacation/STIV), ‘Rolling Stone: Life and Death Of Brian Jones’ is the first feature length documentary to be produced about the founder and original leader of The Rolling Stones. In the mid 60’s, Brian Jones emerged as 'the face' and poster boy of the Bohemian Swingin’ London scene, topping the charts with The Rolling Stones and dating model/actress Anita Pallenberg. However, his excessive lifestyle and his reputation as ' the original bad boy of Rock & Roll' was to cost him dearly. As the scene descended into the acid ridden year of 1967 so did Brian. Targeted by the authorities and media, he spiralled out of control losing both Anita and the respect of the Stones. Two years later, Brian was found at the bottom of his swimming pool, the verdict: death by misadventure. During the last 50 years many theories have emerged, claiming that Brian was murdered and that it was covered up at high level, as ‘Rolling Stone: Life and Death Of Brian Jones’ discovers- the evidence for this is extremely compelling. Director: Danny Garcia Cast: Brian Jones, Prince Stash Klossowski, Chris Salewicz, Dick Taylor, Simon Wells, Stephen Woolley Running Time: 96 minutes Certificate: 15 'This film is beautifully put together and totally engrossing from start to finish'. Irvine Welsh 'Rolling Stone: Life and Death of Brian Jones is a frank, attention-stealing tribute and worthwhile addition to any Stones enthusiasts collection, and sees a long-time fan marking his own territory on the subject like a wolf......it's very good. Maybe his (Garcia's) best.' 8/10 Louder than War Please note there are no ads and trailers. Museum galleries are closed during film screenings. Previous Next

- Di Anno - Iron Maiden's Lost Singer
Film night at the BME Di'Anno - Iron Maiden's Lost Singer Thursday 11 June 2026, 7.30pm DI'ANNO - IRON MAIDEN'S LOST SINGER is a strikingly raw and intimate film, in which director Wes Orshoski captures the late singer riding an emotional rollercoaster toward the end of his life. Featuring appearances by James Hetfield (Metallica), Gene Simmons (Kiss), Iron Maiden's Steve Harris and members of Exodus, Slayer, Megadeth, Overkill and Sepultura, the film chronicles how two Iron Maiden fans encounter Di'Anno at the lowest point of his life and then set out to restore his health and relaunch his career. Wheelchair-bound since the mid-2010s, Di’Anno’s health nosedived during the Covid-19 pandemic, when those two fans launched a crowdfunding campaign which ultimately led to him relocating to Croatia, where - through the help of those fans and doctors - he made a dramatic turnaround while running out of money, reuniting with his former Iron Maiden bandmates, and falling in love. Eventually he makes a heroic and drama-filled return to the stage. All of this is captured in DI'ANNO - IRON MAIDEN'S LOST SINGER, which Orshoski began shooting in 2017. “For years there wasn’t much to capture,” says Orshoski, whose credits include 'Lemmy', a study of Motörhead frontman Lemmy Kilmister and 'The Damned: Don't You Wish That We Were Dead'. “Paul was waiting for surgeries that doctors in the U.K. would not green-light. He was in an incredibly dark place. But once he got to Croatia, fans and doctors gave him the hope he was desperately searching for. It was beautiful to witness. I wanted to make a film that was unlike any rock doc you've ever seen. And in the end, I think we got there.” One of icons of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal scene of the late 1970s and early 1980s, London-born Di’Anno helped launch Iron Maiden around the world, appearing on two of the most foundational metal albums ever released: Iron Maiden’s 1980 self-titled debut and the celebrated follow-up, Killers, released in 1981. In one of the most epic sagas in metal history, Di’Anno left Maiden in 1981 and was replaced by Bruce Dickinson, leaving metal fans around the world to debate which line-up and which singer was/is better. It’s a debate that continues to this day, almost 50 years later. Orshoski finished work on the film (which was shot in England, Croatia, Brazil and the United States) shortly before Di’Anno’s death at 66 in October 2023. Tickets £8 or £7 for BME Annual Pass holders (ID required) RUN TIME: 98 MINS COUNTRY: USA CERT: 15 DIRECTOR: Wes Orshoski Please note, our museum galleries are closed during film screenings. There are no ads or trailers, the film starts at 7.30pm.
- An Evening in Conversation with Midge Ure | BME
An Evening in Conversation with Midge Ure 9 December - 7.00pm All tickets £16. On sale Friday 5 November, 10am. BOOK TICKETS We are delighted to welcome one of the most successful musicians of his generation, Midge Ure to BME for an evening in conversation. An artist who has received Ivor Novello, Grammy, BASCAP awards along with a flotilla of gold and platinum records, really needs very little introduction. By the time Midge's single "If I Was" went to No1 in 1985 he had already crammed several musical lifetimes into a 10-year professional career - Slik, The Rich Kids, Thin Lizzy, Visage, Ultravox and of course the most famous one-off group in musical history Band Aid all had the guiding hand of his musical navigation. November 25, 1984 was a historic day for Midge and all of pop music, as 36 artists by the collective name Band Aid gathered at SARM Studios in west London under Ure's production. They recorded 'Do They Know It's Christmas?' a song he had just written with Bob Geldof as the industry's heartfelt and eloquent contribution to Ethiopian famine relief. 600,000 copies sold in its first week in the UK alone and that was only the beginning: 800,000 more were bought in the second week, more than three million world-wide, and the unstoppable emotion engendered by the project led to Live Aid, the summer 1985 global concert that, all exaggeration aside, spoke for a generation. Within months, a staggering £8 million had been raised for the starving in Africa, and Geldof said that without Ure's initial enthusiasm for the idea, not to mention his rapidly penned sketch for the single, neither Band Aid nor Live Aid could have happened. Midge’s career continues to this day as writer, musician, producer and TV presenter. Midge and his band Electronica are returning to the UK with the ‘Voice & Visions’ tour, celebrating 40 years since the release of Ultravox’s Rage In Eden and Quartet albums. For this special evening, Midge will be in conversation with publisher Ronnie Gurr talking about his career to date. As an extra treat he will also perform a couple of acoustic songs. Midge’s new photobook, ‘in a picture frame’ will also be on sale at the event - a stunning collection of photographs taken by Midge on his travels between 1980 and 1985. Tickets to the event will allow you unlimited general entry to the BME for one whole year. You can help us support and grow the archive and collection of instruments and outfits by agreeing to Gift Aid your event ticket. We will receive £0.25 for each £1 spent. Remember to complete your Gift Aid declaration and hand it to us on arrival. Thank you for the support. Previous Next
