An Afternoon with Vince Eager
7 December 2025, 2.00pm - Discovery Zone

Join us for an afternoon in-conversation with Vince Eager as he discusses a life in music with fascinating stories from his ‘rock ‘n’ roll files’ featuring Billy Fury, Marty Wilde, Joe Brown, Eddie Cochran, Gene Vincent, Jerry Lee Lewis and more.

The choir of St Johns Church in Grantham, Lincolnshire proved to be the launch pad for Roy Taylor, soon to become Vince Eager. Alongside Marty Wilde, Joe Brown, Billy Fury, Cliff Richard, Tommy Steel and the Shadows they became the foundation of British Rock ‘n’ Roll.

Such was their impact on the British pop music charts, plus regular appearances on TV shows such as Six Five Special, Oh Boy, Drumbeat and Boy Meets Girl, that American artists soon realised that the UK was the place to be to promote their music. The best-known American rock ‘n roller to grace UK shores was Bill Haley. Such was his impact on the British music scene that he caused riots and arrests during his tour.

It was 2 years before American musicians were allowed to tour the UK again, the first being Gene Vincent. Being a big fan, Eager was thrilled when his legendary manager Larry Parnes asked him to support Vincent on his UK tour. No sooner had the excitement died down, Parnes added Eddie Cochran to the bill. Eddie’s addition to the show was not what Eager wanted to hear, and the consequences became part of British Rock ‘n’ Roll history.

Hear how Eager became good pals with his fellow rock ‘n’ rollers, the mischief and mayhem created on tour, how he had a fight with one of television’s smallest big stars, and was awarded in a very special way by the BBC.

The event will take place in the museum's Discovery Zone.  Seats are allocated on a first come first served basis.
